Avoid the Dreaded Google Penguin Ban at all Costs
Recently Google has tightened its guidelines in an attempt to weed out unwanted and unethical Internet users who are intentionally misusing Google’s search engine in an effort to try to manipulate Google search rankings.
While for a period of time these practices might have been temporarily successful at raising a website’s Google rank, they are now cause for an immediate ban by Google, which can be extremely harmful and very difficult from which to recover.
Google-Approved Practices
Here are some tactics you can use to get on Google’s good side while raising your ranks:
Build Links the Old-Fashioned Way
Yes, go ahead and try to build links, both to and from your website. It’s perfectly acceptable to share links and collaborate with other sites. This practice generally benefits both parties, as well as offering alternative information to site visitors. It can be a great way to link relative content and is actually the main intent of the Internet, as it aids users in finding the most relevant information quickly.
Use Appropriate Keywords
Keywords are the focus of most SEO practices that are used by successful webmasters to improve search rankings and increase website traffic. Research keywords that are relevant to your field of interest and use those keywords where appropriate in your content. This helps Internet users locate you when they are searching for the type of information that your site contains.
Keywords can effectively be used in titles, categories, tags, meta-data, as well as their more obvious use in your website content. It’s appropriate and acceptable to use keywords in sentences in the main text of your website, as long as the text makes sense and you’re not attempting to manipulate Google ranking by your overuse of keywords.
Be Aware of Google Rules
Google very clearly states their guidelines in the webmaster section of their Internet site. Be sure to familiarize yourself with these guidelines and follow them very carefully. To ignore or dismiss these guidelines is to risk being banned from Google search results. A little bit of prevention can avoid a very harmful and costly mistake.
Strategies to Avoid
Here are those tactics you want to avoid at all costs:
Spinning
Don’t use article spinners to duplicate content, hoping your text will be varied enough so as not to tip off Google’s radar. This is a clear attempt to manipulate the system in order to gain ranking, without any real intent to distribute useful information to your visitors. This is both unethical and immediate grounds for banning.
Duplicate Sites
Creating multiple websites with virtually duplicate content to increase linking between your sites and gain Google ranking is an absolute no-no. By all means, create multiple websites if you have a desire to do so, but make sure they all have offer unique information that is useful to readers.
For example, don’t create 10 sites about product fulfillment and use the same copy on all of them. If you create and link these too-similar sites, Google will view this practice as deceptive and manipulative.
Google is a very useful tool and achieving high Google search rankings can result in a huge boost to your website’s traffic and visibility. This can be a very useful strategy in building your brand recognition while driving revenue and sales. However, if you misuse this tool Google will ban your site from their search results and this can be difficult to recover from.

Hi there, Great info.
I wonder whether google would penalise you for creating duplicate sites with no link between for the purpose of offering two of the same sites for two different salesmen?
Great info otherwise, with the rate that google is changing things up, it is awesome to have all this info so readily available.
Cole @ Four Jandals
We were luckily NOT penalised by Google but seems like a lot of people were. We don’t over optimise though so that probably helps

I think that the Penguin update is one of many to come as Google keeps upgrading its algorithm. If you write your content for your site users and make sure that your site crawlability is in good shape, then you shouldn’t have any problems.

Google’s logic is now clear, and its principal aim is now preventing spam. When Google came out with the Panda update webmasters were very discomfited. Now that the company invented additional product, Google Penguin, the majority individuals are even more anxious and expect the worst.

There is so much on the wire right now about this update I could scream… I think the best advice is to build a nice website that your customers will want to find information on about you. Yes use your keywords and don’t be too spammy about it but the deceit that happens in the SEO world still kills me.. Thanks for sharing this info. Now off to build some link ranking.

Penguin update is such a headache but still coping with the changes and accepting the updates challenges. It’s getting the links the right way, avoiding paid services and focusing more in providing quality content.

Its a good thing really that google is taking action against these crap sites. However Im afraid that one day they might take it a bit too far and hurt people that are honest about their work. Google has a pretty rap for customer service so this worries me a bit, if i ever have to defend any of my websites.

Nice breakdown of some of the things to do and some of the things to avoid with regards to Google’s new updates. I think, as always, if webmasters, bloggers and other content creators keep in mind their users, and providing good quality value to them, then they will gradually increase awareness and site visitors (and rankings) naturally. This is the only proven way to increase ranking (for the long-term) that will survive any future Google algorithm update.
